What is a CCD?
Glossary DefinitionA CCD (Charged Coupled Device) is a semiconductor chip with a grid of light-sensitive elements, used for converting light images, as in a television camera, into electrical signals which can then be decoded and turned back into visible images elsewhere. The CCD was invented by Bell National Labs in 1969 and is the basic premise for all modern CCTV cameras.
